Chairperson Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP), Senator Rubina Khalid, visited Swat to meet families devastated by recent floods, reviewing the tragic toll in lives and property.

During her visit, she engaged closely with beneficiaries, heard their concerns, and instructed officials to address their grievances without delay. She inspected BISP’s Mobile Registration Van, expressing satisfaction with its outreach in such trying circumstances, and later appreciated the selfless efforts of medical staff working in relief camps.

At a press conference in the Swat Press Club, Senator Rubina Khalid recalled her earlier meeting with the Sikh community at the Gurdwara, where businessmen had requested loans instead of aid to rebuild their enterprises with dignity. She announced that negotiations with Sindh Bank and other institutions are underway to fulfill this request.

She assured the victims that BISP stands with them in their loss. A survey of damages is already in progress, and relief measures will be rolled out promptly once the Prime Minister issues directions. She stressed that both the Pakistan Peoples Party and BISP share the agony of the affected families and remain steadfast in their support.

Dispelling misconceptions, Senator Rubina Khalid clarified: “BISP does not create dependency; it sustains balance between income and expenditure for low-income households.” Highlighting recent initiatives, she noted that on June 21, the President of Pakistan inaugurated the Benazir Hunarmand Programme on the birth anniversary of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto. “Through BISP we ease lives, and through Hunarmand we strive to elevate the living standards of our beneficiaries and their families,” she affirmed.
